Schuyler C. Metlis, M.D., board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with Hannibal Regional Medical Group, has been approved by Hannibal Regional Hospital to continue his participation in a breast implant study conducted by the Allergan Corporation, a global leader in breast implant technology, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Metlis is one of 120 plastic surgeons in the United States that is involved with Allergan CARE Study of a highly cohesive silicone filled breast implant.
The study involves a shaped breast implant for women who are undergoing breast reconstruction after mastectomy or who are undergoing replacement of existing breast implants placed for reconstructive or cosmetic purposes. The purpose of the study is to make the highly cohesive silicone gel implant available to qualified patients and gather long term data on safety and effectiveness. Women who meet eligibility criteria and choose to utilize the implant will participate in a research study that requires office visits following surgery at one, two, five, seven and ten years.
